From the Streets of Lagos to Building Businesses: The Journey of Ajibola Jeremiah Adenuga

Success is rarely an overnight achievement. Mine began on the bustling streets of Lagos, where I learned one of life’s greatest lessons at just 11 years old: hard work creates opportunities.

I am Ajibola Jeremiah Adenuga, an entrepreneur, business leader, and firm believer that no dream is too big when you’re willing to put in the work.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, I am the second of four children to Chief Sesan Adenuga. My entrepreneurial journey started much earlier than most people would imagine. At the age of 11, I joined my mother in her business, selling plates and cutlery on the streets of Lagos. Those early experiences taught me resilience, discipline, customer service, and the value of earning every opportunity.

By the age of 14, I had taken on even greater responsibility by helping my father manage his 10-bedroom hotel in the heart of Lagos. While many teenagers were focused solely on school, I was balancing education with bookkeeping, accounting, and the day-to-day operations of the family business. Those years gave me practical business experience that no classroom could ever teach.

My academic journey began at Lagos State Model College, Meiran, before continuing at Babcock University, where I graduated with a Second Class degree. Determined to expand my knowledge and gain international exposure, I moved to the United Kingdom in 2010 to pursue a Master’s degree in Information Technology Management at the University of Bradford. Through dedication and hard work, I graduated with a Distinction, proving that excellence comes from commitment.

My professional career allowed me to work with respected organisations across both the United Kingdom and Nigeria. I held roles at companies including 3M UK as an Account Manager, Yodel, The Co-operative Bank UK, African Independent Television (AIT), and several others. Each role broadened my experience in business operations, customer management, technology, finance, and leadership.

However, entrepreneurship was always my true calling.

I first entered the business world as a club promoter and events planner, learning how to build relationships, market experiences, and create memorable events. That passion for identifying opportunities led me to establish Ministry of Booze, a beverage supply company serving bars, clubs, and hospitality businesses.

Never one to settle, I expanded into the food industry by launching Suya Republick, a takeaway restaurant specialising in premium African cuisine, grilled delicacies, and fine dining experiences. The business reflected my passion for delivering quality while celebrating African flavours.

My biggest milestone came with the launch of JB Hotel and Suites, a hospitality investment valued at over ₦500 million in Nigeria. Building the hotel was more than opening another business—it was the fulfilment of a dream that began decades earlier when I was helping my father manage a small 10-bedroom hotel as a teenager. Life had come full circle.

People often describe me as a “jack of all trades.” I see it differently. I am a lifelong learner who refuses to be limited by labels. Every business I’ve built, every challenge I’ve faced, and every risk I’ve taken has been another chapter in a journey driven by vision, resilience, and the courage to keep moving forward.

Today, I continue to seek new opportunities, inspire aspiring entrepreneurs, and prove that humble beginnings are not barriers to extraordinary success. My story is still being written, and the best chapters are yet to come.
